5 things not to do when you are a realtor working with a friend or relative
Your friend has decided to sell her condo or buy a new home and after debating whether to call you or XYZ company she has favored you. Here are five things not to do when you work with a relative or friend:
1- Don’t think you know her better than you do: She told you she wants an ocean view, but you think being close to her job will make her life better so you make appointments according to what you think she really needs.
2- Don’t discuss details with your family: It is hard to keep confidentiality with someone close, especially if your cousin’s home purchase is the topic at your aunt’s birthday party.
3-Don’t expect your friends or family to tolerate the same things they put up with in other situaations: If your arrive late at every dinner they may not like it but, hey, he’s your brother. But what will happen if you arrive late at an appointment to show their property?
4-Don’t jeopardize your friendship if they chose someone else: your relative may have more than one relative or friend who is a realtor. There may be many factors influencing the decision and probably none has anything to do with how much they care about you.
5-Don’t think you can’t be fired because you are a friend: making a great margarita is not the same as taking care of a real estate deal, and your friend wants someone who is the right pro for the latter. You may be best buddies, but if you don’t get along working it is healthier to refer them to someone else or simply.
